Oh my goodness, where did November go? I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. During November, we took time to write about what each of us were thankful for. Doing this for several days made us think about what was important to us and why that specific thing/person was so special.
Our 3 weeks in November found everyone working hard to complete IOWA testing. We welcomed Mr. Minnich and Ms. Edmundson back to our classroom. They've been teaching mini-units in reading, English, social studies, and math. In December they'll also teach science. We love having them in the classroom and learning from them. We also began practicing for our upcoming Christmas program. We hope to see you all there on December 13--the show begins at 12:45 p.m., and the students are expected to be there by 12:30 p.m. Blessings and Happy Advent to you! Mrs. Dachel The second quarter has begun! Where did the first quarter go? In addition to beginning a new quarter, we also have begun our standardized testing. We will continue with our IOWA testing through November 19.
During the month of November, the students are working to collect food for the local food pantry. This is a great way to show our thankfulness for the many gifts God has given us and to share our fortune with others. Fifth and sixth grades are studying the life of Moses in Religion class. Fifth grade students are adding and subtracting decimals in math. Meanwhile, sixth grade students are spending math time learning how to plot coordinates on a coordinate plane. In science, they are continuing their study of the human body and the circulatory and respiratory systems. Students spent time making an Underground Railroad quilt in social studies class. Mrs. Myrna Meinen came to class to show the students a quilt she made that represents different parts of the Underground Railroad that slaves used to escape slavery in the South. After seeing the quilt, the students have been working to make a class quilt using art supplies. It's turning out to be a really neat project! It was great talking to all of the parents on Wednesday and Thursday night. Thank you so much to everyone for coming to conferences! By:Mrs. Dachel On Monday,we got two new students in our classroom! Their names are Will and Sarah. In art, we made perspective drawings. We all dressed up as saints on Friday. One person from each grade went up to the ambo during Mass to share. We studied the heart in science class and made the model of an arm.
By: Isabelle & Griffin On, Monday 5th and 6th graders brought home an egg which represented their soul. They learned how fragile their soul is. Wednesday was the Pork Steak Dinner. Over half the class helped at it! Thursday, Mrs. Myrna Meinen came and showed us her quilt that told a story of the Underground Railroad. She left a book for us to read that tells stories of each of the designs of the quilt blocks. Friday, Father Ed came after Mass and we played jeopardy. To finish the week, we made butterflies out of leaves in art.
Lilly and Zach This week went quickly. Monday night six people in our class went on for a conservation speaking contest. We had two winners in our class; Lilly took second and Paige took third. We even sang "Wagon Wheel"! Friday after Mass, Father Ed came in to talk to us, and since it is the month of October ge talked to us about about Mary and the Rosary.
